TL;DR: The St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Marin City, California, realized the need to support the BLM movement during the summer of 2020. Also stuck in the middle of a pandemic, the congregation worked with Boundless to create an online pop-up store with BLM-supporting T-shirts, totes, or a bundle, all benefitting the Southern Marin Food Pantry.

overview

Big change is only possible through real action. And no one commits to “Love In Action” as much as the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Marin City, California. Since 1956, this inter-racial congregation has celebrated diversity and multiculturalism in its community. With a long history of social activism, the church congregation realized the need to support the Black Lives Matter movement for racial justice in the summer of 2020.

strategy & goals

St. Andrew Presbyterian wanted to create a fundraiser that would support BLM, as well as its food pantry and community outreach efforts. But the church wasn’t sure how to raise funds in a safe, cost-effective way that would make it convenient to gather donations in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The St. Andrew congregation worked with Boundless Brand Consultant, Andrea Pereira with Rocket Science Branding, to create a customized online pop-up store just for the occasion. The church produced a custom design from signs displayed at the Marin City BLM march in the summer of 2020. The team transformed these beautiful standalone pieces into collage graphics printed on totes and T-shirts. People could buy either a tote, a shirt, or a bundle from the pop-up store to benefit the Southern Marin Food Pantry.

results

During the devastation of the pandemic, the digital pop-up experience gave the church the opportunity to raise funds safely. Plus, the community enjoyed the added convenience of paying online and receiving their items directly on their doorsteps.

conclusion

St. Andrew Presbyterian Church was able to continue its good works in the community. This campaign not only created Brand Love between the church and its community, but it also spread compassion, respect, and humanity in a time of darkness and strife.
